The 12-story Champlain Towers South condominium partially collapsed June 24 at about 1:20 a.m. Rescuers have recovered the bodies of 11 victims; about 150 people remain unaccounted for.
A structural engineering report in 2018 pointed to major damage at the 40-year-old building and recommended extensive repairs. The condo association for the building recently approved assessing unit owners $15 million to begin repairs, according to news reports.
"We understand there are questions about why the building collapsed and how it could have been prevented," Thomas Skiba, CEO of CAI, said in a statement. "We also know that the proper authorities will conduct a thorough investigation. At this time, we believe the focus should be on the victims, their families, and the first responders who continue to search for survivors and provide support to the Surfside community."
CAI's more than 40,000 members include board members at condominiums and other homeowners associations, as well as association management firms and professionals who provide products and services to these associations. CAI is based in Falls Church, Va., and has 63 chapters around the world.
